The Competent Man

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

Fancy Pants Restaurant

Last week I took Wei to Supperclub for an early birthday present. I'm not ususally into expensive, fancy restaruants, but this place is nice! You eat a five-course dinner while laying out on these long, comfy beds. Every night there's various entertainment during dinner. The night we went, Bebel Gilberto was singing Brazilian bassanova music. She is a wonderful singer, and had a great band to back her up. Since our view of the performance was blocked by a staircase, the maitre'd placed pillows on the floor right in front of Bebel so we had an excellent view! Masseuses were on hand to give dinner guests massages between dinner courses. I got a massage that included the girl walking on my back. My favorite dinner courses were the oysters and shrimp cocktails waiting for us when we arrived, a creamy orange soup, and a large mint-flavored chocolate for dessert.

I would definitely recommend this place as it's quite a treat for the senses. Reservations are required, you have to get there between 7:30-8pm, and it lasts 3-4 hours total. When making reservations you should ask for a bed on the lower level since the view is not as good from the upper level.

Randomness vs. Fate

Do you believe in fate? I recently had a dicussion with a friend about this. To me, when people resign themselves to their fate they are relinquishing control of their lives over to something they feel has already been decided. No matter what they do from that point on, they cannot escape their fate.

Bullhonky.

Your path in life is a combination of conscious choices made by yourself and others along with a healthy dose of ramdomness thrown in. This randomness is what keeps me going. I know this has been the topic of countless books and movies, but I just love the random things that life can bring.
